How to use it

Pick where the time is set, choose a date and time, and tick the places you want to compare. Your own time zone is always included. Rows in working hours (9:00 to 17:00) are marked, and the line under the table shows the hours on that day when everyone you picked is at work.

The date matters because clocks change on different days in different countries. The calculator uses your browser’s time zone database, so it follows each country’s current daylight saving rules.

Because the US and Europe change on different weekends, London and New York are usually 5 hours apart but only 4 hours apart for about three weeks in March and one week around the start of November. Calendar invites sent during those weeks are the classic cause of people turning up an hour early.

Good meeting windows

  • London and New York: 13:00 to 17:00 London time (8:00 to 12:00 in New York) for most of the year.
  • London and Dubai: Dubai is 3 hours ahead of London in summer and 4 in winter, so 9:00 to 13:00 London time works year round.
  • Dubai and Riyadh: Riyadh is always 1 hour behind Dubai. The UAE working week runs Monday to Friday; in Saudi Arabia most offices work Sunday to Thursday, so Monday to Thursday is the safe overlap.
  • Sydney and London: 9 to 11 hours apart depending on the season, with almost no shared office hours. An early morning in London (7:00 to 8:00) is the evening in Sydney.
  • Auckland and the US West Coast: Auckland is roughly a day ahead; late afternoon in Los Angeles is the next morning in Auckland.
