How ages and date differences are counted

Your age in years goes up on your birthday, so the calculator counts whole years first, then whole months, then the days left over, exactly as people do. Someone born on 31 March 1990 is 36 years, 7 months and 5 days old on 5 November 2026, which is also 13,368 days.

The “days between” figure counts from the first date up to, but not including, the second. From 1 January to 2 January is one day. If you need to include both ends, for example for a hotel stay or a notice period that counts the first and last day, add one.

Leap-year birthdays

If you were born on 29 February, the calculator treats 28 February as your birthday in years without a leap day, which is the rule used in most countries for things like voting age and driving licences. A few places use 1 March; if that matters for a legal deadline, check the rule that applies to you.

Adding or subtracting days

Use “a date plus or minus days” for deadlines: 90 days from a contract date, 14 days for a return window, or the end of a 30-day notice period. Enter a negative number to count backwards. The result shows the day of the week so you can spot deadlines that land on a weekend. For working days only, with public holidays taken out, use the working days calculator.

Common uses

  • Checking an exact age for a form, a visa application or school enrolment.
  • Working out length of service for UAE gratuity or Saudi end-of-service pay.
  • Days until a wedding, a trip or retirement.
  • Pregnancy due dates: 280 days from the first day of the last period is the standard estimate.
